Restorative Dental Crowns
What Are Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns are a common treatment to protect damaged teeth. They act as a “cap” that fits over the existing tooth to help restore shape, size, strength, and function. Crowns are carefully created to look natural and fit comfortably in your mouth.
At Kimball & Beecher, we specialize in metal-free crowns. Made from a strong, durable zirconia material, metal-free crowns typically last longer than traditional porcelain crowns. Additionally, they have an extremely natural look, matching the color of your teeth as closely as possible.
Another added benefit of crowns is that they don’t require any special care. You brush and floss them the same as you would your natural teeth.
Reasons for a Dental Crown
Dental crowns are a versatile treatment that can address numerous issues. Here are some of the most common reasons your dentist would recommend a crown:
- Protect a weak tooth that has been worn, damaged, or decayed.
- Restore a broken tooth or severely worn tooth.
- Cover a tooth with a large filling or dental implant.
- Hold a dental bridge in place.
- Restore a natural look to severely discolored teeth.
- Protect a tooth after a root canal.
Dental Crowns at Kimball & Beecher
At Kimball & Beecher we want to make the dental crown process as easy as possible for patients. In most cases, crowns require two visits. On the first visit, your dentist will prepare the existing tooth to remove any decay and ensure a precise fit. Then, we’ll make an impression to create an exact model of the tooth.
While the final crown is being created, your dentist will fit you with a temporary crown. Once the permanent crown is complete, usually in less than two weeks, you’ll return to have it placed. With every treatment, your dentist will work with you to make sure you’re satisfied with the look and feel of the crown.
