A child’s first visit to the dentist should be enjoyable and educational. Children are not born with a natural fear of the dentist, but they can oftentimes fear the unknown. We are dedicated to making these visits as educational and efficient as possible. We want you and your child to feel at ease from the moment your family arrives at our office. The key to success is prevention. Basic brushing, flossing, and good nutrition at home is the primary key to prevention.
What age should your child visit the dentist?
Our Providers follow the suggestions of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry that children should visit the dentist by their first birthday. Newly erupted teeth, getting comfortable with the dental experience, early interventions and professional education are all benefits of your child being seen at a young age.
Visiting the dentist every six months for regular dental cleanings and checkups are important. The dental team will evaluate the eruption patterns, discuss prevention tips like fluoride or sealants, and monitor the overall growth and development of the child’s oral cavity.
Adopting Healthy Oral Hygiene Habits
As your child’s teeth erupt, be sure to examine them as well as support them with their brushing habits. Encouraging your children to learn how to brush and floss their own teeth is important, but supportive guidance before or after from an adult is helpful to ensure the best results. If you notice any dark staining or a cavitated area in a tooth, don’t wait until it becomes problematic to see the dentist. Simple and Fun is key! Basic brushing, flossing and the use of fluoridated toothpaste can prevent childhood caries.
2 X 2 rule is the best rule to follow: Brush & Floss for 2 minutes, 2 times per day.
